I just really don’t know where to begin my review of the Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo in Guanacaste. It is just under 30 minutes from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia and to put it simply everything was fabulous. I listed the highlights before writing this blog but I’m sure to have missed something (my apologies) – so please don’t accept this as complete and I encourage you to go and do even more.

As for reservations and the check-in process, both were flawless in reviewing the on-site amenities of the entire property and surrounding activities/tours which are simply too great in number to cover.  The entrance to the gated community is overwhelming with palms, statues, manicured lawns, well-groomed paths and car stopping views of the bay. Turn your car and luggage over to the valet attendant before stepping into pure bliss.  Get whisked away to your room via golf cart where you step into luxury with all the amenities (hats, flip-flops, stocked mini-fridge, snacks and stunning views from a plush bed.  Oh and don’t forget you can shower with the bay view door wide open in complete privacy further connecting your senses to nature. Step onto the balcony and take in all the sights and sounds but guard your snacks in the morning from the thieving white faced monkeys, who will steal anything and be gone before you can snap a photo.

The onsite list of daily activities is posted in digital format with a QR code, review it and let the fun begin!  Some activities require reservations/bookings and additional fees – we found them all to be worth every penny spent.  First things first, we got our 4-year-old daughter signed up for activities in the Cambi Kids Club – arts, crafts, playtime, movie watching, hair braiding, nail polish, nature exploring and more! When we returned to pick her up after class, she didn’t want to leave thanks to the friendly staff and all the other kids.  As for adult activities I chose culinary (we learned about, we made, fried and then we ate our empanadas) in Chao Pescao the Tapas and nightlife bar/restaurant (one of 3 restaurants).  Meanwhile my wife disappeared for several hours to the spa for a full body scrub and wrap that she proclaimed as the greatest pampering she has ever experienced.  Multiple pools (including adult only) with comfy loungers, natural shade trees, umbrellas and a plethora of attendants running food and drinks. We met so many great families from all over the world enjoying quality time with their kids and finding time for some adult conversations as well.

Buffet style breakfast is served daily in Rio Bhongo restaurant with a fresh menu everyday and lots of options to satisfy even the finicky eaters in your group.  A variety of stations featuring eggs, meats, local “typical” favorites, pastries, fruits, oatmeal and simply the best coffee you will ever put to your lips. Get your fill on as breakfast is included in your daily room rate.  Amazing lunch and dinner items are served up without a reservation and plenty of amazing bay view tables are available for additional oohs and ahhs to accompany the delicious meals.

Tour the resort by casual stroll, electric bicycles or hop onto a golf cart for even faster arrival times.  Enjoy a round of golf on the Arnold Palmer designed 18-hole course set alongside the Nacascolo Preserve and explore the nature center.  Hop onto the resort boat and cruise the crystal clear waters of the bay, scour the shoreline for birds and monkeys on the way to the exclusive beach for guests.  Upon arrival, you are greeted by staff ready to assist and serve. Lounge under the trees or in the sun on the beach while utilizing kayaks or SUP boards at no charge and drink/dine in the sand or restaurant offering mouthwatering snacks to delicious meals

The perfect luxury yet family style hotel, perfect for families, singles and couples alike!
